As the crow flies, as the flow cries

6th - 21st August 2022

Exhibition at Kompan, Siglufjörður

As the crow flies, as the flow cries’ is a series of collages made in the last year, an impulse followed after setting up a studio in Reykjavík in February 2022. The collages are quickly made from accumulated papers and photos, as an organisation process, that allows experimentation with composition and form. As well as the collages there is a dustjacket from Itten’s ‘The Elements of Colour’ – this was given to me by the artist Dave Howe, before I moved to Iceland. He was a regular at a café I worked at, in Durham in the North East of England. He would arrive with paintings and collages to put on the wall. We bonded over our appreciation for Kurt Schwitters. He was an older man, he drank plenty of coffee and would chat to me whilst I worked. He gave me the book and said it was important, it was well used, the dustjacket was tattered and barely held together. By showing the dustjacket in the exhibition, I see it as a collaboration with Dave, as I have lost touch with him and feel thankful for his encouragement and kindness.
